Subject: Protect KY youth from harms of e-cigarettes -- pass Senate Bill 56!

Message:

While youth cigarette smoking has declined in Kentucky, e-cigarette usage among children and teens has surged. E-cigarettes are nicotine-packed products that prime the adolescent brain for addiction and can cause lasting damage to development, among other negative health outcomes. As much as we don’t want to believe it, our kids often rely on "social sources," such as friends or relatives close in age, to get these harmful tobacco products. <br><br>Senate Bill 56 can reduce the likelihood of kids’ access through peers to e-cigarettes and other harmful products by establishing a minimum legal sale age of 21 for tobacco products. It also removes all penalties for youth under age 21 for purchase, use, and possession of tobacco products, which can be counterproductive in reducing youth tobacco use. <br><br>As your constituent, I urge you to support Senate Bill 56 to comply with the federal Tobacco-21 law. Our children deserve to grow up healthy, free from the harms of nicotine and other negative health outcomes.
